Somewhere around 8K-9K, and it's only happened a couple of times. It's more common to have a really great day top out at about 7K, because by then I'm getting a little loopy from mental exhaustion.

Usual output on a decent day: about 2-3K.

The MOST ever was 10K. It was a long, long day and I couldn't move my head afterward. But deadlines can be hell sometimes. I try to stick with around 3-4K a day, because I like feeling my fingers afterwards. ;)

I think my highest was about 9k. I actually wrote that while I was supposed to be studying for a microbiology final. My muse is very rude.

My norm used to be around 2-3k a day, but anymore I'm doing good just to write 1k a day. Of course, I don't have any deadlines to meet, but I'm hoping someday I will.

I think the most I got in once was about 9k. The average for me though is right around 3k-4k. (Work, mommy, wife, maid sort of get in the way of being a writer. lol) I'll tell you, that day I pounded out 9k was fantastic. :)

That's about right for me too. But when I'm in my groove, I usually do about 1,000 words a day (although I aim to complete a scene, using the 1,000 words as a guideline).

Momentarily stealing the thread...

Try hanging with Melpomene, the Muse of tragedy. She's a regular laugh riot, I can tell you...

Just a curious question. Does anyone else name their muse? (Or perhaps I should stop sniffing my childrens' markers)

Okay... I return you to your discussion already in progress.

The most I've ever cranked out in a day was probably 5k. But I do most of my first drafts by hand so it's much, much slower going than typing. But when the first draft is done and I'm typing it into my laptop, I can do probably 8-9k a day. That's with no interruptions...which happens very, very, very rarely.

Actually, Mel is a regular character on my blog. She's the producer of Jezebel's talk radio show, Cat and Muse. (Jez is the main character in HELL'S BELLES.) Sadly, Mel speaks only in cliches, pop culture references and song lyrics. A tragedy, if you will...

Darn. I guess that means I really should put the caps back on my kids' markers then. *sigh* And here I thought for a moment I wasn't the only one who actually named her muse. :e2bummed:

I know a few writers who name their muse. But still, hon, put the cap back on and step away from the markers. It's a nasty habit, often resulting in unsightly colored streaks around your nostrils if you're not careful.

 Point taken. I was wondering why people were asking about the purple smudges.

Alright, I really am returning this thread back to it's original purpose.
