Hi guys,

Can anyone offer some feedback? I recently sent a proposal to a publisher (8 weeks) who sent me an email 2 1/2 weeks ago asking me if I had signed yet and told me they would get back to me within a week with an answer (legit press). Well a week and then two has passed and no response. I don't want to seem pesty, and I don't want to assume no since the initial email was very promising.

What do you think? Is it ok to inquire? My inclination is to do so, since they said they'd get back within a week... but again, I don't want to be "that" pesty writer. And I've been published before... I am accustomed to long waits but it is quite frustrating to hear "we'll get back to you by this date" and then not respond, even if it is a no.

TIA

Well, they are obviously interested, and most likely backlogged. I would wait another week and then email them. Do you have another offer that you need to decide on? If so, email them immediately.
Good luck!

This is a time of year when people either go on vacation or take time off to get their kids ready for another school year. I'd wait until after Labor Day before e-mailing.

Just wondering, is this common practice when someone says they will get back to you within a week (laugh) :)

I guess there are no guarantees eh?
