ok folks i have an interesting discussion piece here for all my fellow writers here at AW. now this may have already been asked before here, but i'd like to ask anyway. so the 64 million dollar question is this.

if for some reason your book gets turned into a movie, who would you want as the cast for it?

i'll start off with mine:

Casting Call :e2Order:

Dornan Brothers (triplets): Wentworth Miller

Faowucon: Leonard Nimoy (i could actually hear his voice when i wrote his dialogue)

Aclaxis: Angus MacFadyen (he makes a good badguy, don't you think?)

Cywone Nargirion: (looking)

Cireb Vuenlais: (Sébastien Andrieu)

Espilce Dildaulid: Kristy Swanson (picture her with red hair! )

i 'll add more cast memebers as i go along.

i'd like to make this into a sticky if enough folks get involved. so any other takers?

Ooh, this is fun.

Psyche: difficult--a Greek beauty would have been blonde, but if I could go against that, I'd say Liv Tyler. She's beautiful and has that naiive/sweet aura about her.

Eros: Matt Damon. He's a phenomenal actor, and just what the Greeks imagined in their gods.

Aphrodite: No idea. Any suggestion?

Persephone: Drew Barrymore. So many people forget that Persephone is the daughter of Demeter, and want to make her dark.

Hades: Depp

Whoa! I ran here to start up something like this and am glad someone already started it!

Hey, people can dream, right? And I'm one of those many people here, I'm sure.

Kazuo Matsushima - Takeshi Kaneshiro

Lewis Collins - That cute guy from Mean Girls

Rodrigo Cazatela - Coco Martin

Marcelo Cazatela - Joel Torre

Nobody probably knows much about these actors since almost all are Asian. This is for my novel, Fires and Embers.
I don't think dreaming about your novel being turned to movies is sick or sad. It just gives you more drive especially since you can imagine it. To drive me even more, I even edit a few pics to suit my scenes. Hahaha. Okay, I think I'm getting sick...and not by bacteria too...

The Price of Temptation: I think Billy Crudup would be a marvelous Stephen, but other tall, dark & handsome actors would probably do (am I allowed a casting couch?).

Jamie's harder to cast, since his looks have to creep up on you. Topher Grace?

If she doesn't mind playing a few years older, someone like Maggie Smith would make a wonderful Aunt Matilda.

His part got cut quite a bit from the original draft, but I always pictured Ian McKellen as Jack (Jamie's grandfather), although since he's barely in the published book, it would be a very small cameo. Maybe he could be Mr. Symmons instead.

Need a beautiful young blonde for Rebecca--Scarlett Johansson would do in a pinch.

Sean Astin, perhaps, as Charles.

Jude Law as Julian.

I have to think about Discreet Young Gentleman.

Hmmm,

Mine's political satire: so....

Hermie Shenango (protag who wants to overthrow the government controlled by the New York Times) will be played by Nicole Sullivan
Jack Latrine (her buddy) Michael McDonald
Kling Rudenberg (the friend that turns out to be a lying cut-throat son of a...) Tom Cruise
Cran Calluss (the new party's money handler/treasurer - who does a lousy job and breaks them financially) Martha Stewart
Mack Dirk (head of security/former cop/not real bright) Jack Black
Pep Cliff (new military head/former United States Marine) Damon Wayans
The main bad guy of no name that is the big head of the New York Times that Hermie must defeat in the end who nobody seems to be able to understand - Kenny from South Park

Let's see about this.

This is for Ships That Don't Come In.

Max -- If Matthew McConoughy had red hair, it would be him without a doubt. Maybe he could dye his hair.

John -- Oh, this one is so hard. He is probably one of my favorite characters out of all that I have created. I, of course, have a picture of him in mind, but no actor could really do him justice. If I had to pick someone, I guess it would be Tom Hanks.

Julia -- Dixie Carter. She'd have to dye her hair red, too, but there is no other person I'd want to play this part.

George -- Good question. I don't really know.

Debbie -- Liv Tyler (I want to see her in a bad girl role, and this would be perfect for her, because Debbie has a sweet face, but a hidden bad girl inside)

Sarah -- Kate Hudson (I loved her MM together in How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days and would love to see them hook up together again in a movie)

Alicia -- She has a really small part in Ships, but she is going to have her own book. Kathy Bates would be great in this role, but when I write Alicia's book, I'll have to have someone younger to play her in the beginning. I don't know who that would be.

Blythe -- Julia Stiles. Of course, she, too, would have to die her hair red.

No, I agree with RG and Shadow Ferret: Hollywood is Not touching my work. :D Anyway, I'm not going for film for mine; I want anime -- think Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children combined with Hayao Miyazaki's work.... (^_^)

now that would be HTD(Hot To Death). anime is a great media for just about any book idea.

I'll let those who've read mine cast the movie... It'd be interesting to see how close they are to my own casting choices...

Agreed! Anime is wonderful! However, I will say that you do need to get the appropriate team, else it could end up really really manky. Ick. Then again, that could be said of any book story adapted to visual media (books aren't really visual media, are they?).

Well, yeah, I think they are. Anything that causes your mind's eye to change the written word to pictures should be considered 'visual' media. Some might argue this point, but it all depends how your brain works; as there are three proven variations:

1.) Aural - those who quickly comprehend the spoken word.
2.) Visuary - those who change words into 'pictures', or visual representations.
3.) Kinetic - those who perceive words as emotional or textured

Metaphors and similies grab all three types, which might explain why they are used so often in writing.

Rose-America Ferrera (I actually had her in mind for the way the character looked while I was writing)
her husband, Ted- that guy that looks like Ted Danson but isn't . Anyone know that guy's name?
and the villian is actually modeled after someone I know.

Count me as one person who will never see your movie. Damon? Are you kidding? He's one of the worst actors ever. A bit hard on the eyes, too.

But, whatever floats yer boat. I'm sure a current movie with Damon would do fairly well at the box office.

I've thought about a Rose movie, and I don't know who in Hollywood could play the major characters... especially with regard to the heroine, whose body type is a far, far cry from the Hollywood image of female beauty (she is 6', 220+ pounds of stocky muscle and some fat) Many of the men are also very big, especially compared to the average "name" actor. Yeah, anime would probably be the way to go... either that, or we wind up with a cast of pro wrestlers and weightlifters.

I haven't seen him in much, but I thought his performance in Dogma was very good. He seemed able to convey the nuances in a character

I'm easy when it comes to money; no problem selling (I am talking about my book). The two main characters may include, but are not limited to the below:

Samantha: Andie MacDowell
Carter: Eddie Cahill or Jason O’Mara

I will collaborate with Hollywood regarding the rest of the cast and crew.

Okay, one's enough to get me to see it. End of debate. But three??? Do you know what power that would have over me?

And I think I'd want some talented unknown for my MC that would forever be linked with my story. Like Orlando Bloom is "that blond elf from that Ring movie." Even people who don't even care associate him with Lord of the Rings. Talk about publicity!

Hm. I'd like to see Call of the Clan as a movie.

Cayden Spalding: Damian Lewis
Brynne Murray: Kate Winslet
Evan Muncaster: Cary Elwes
Trish McGregor: Ashley Judd
Will Spalding: Heath Ledger
Dugald and Lachlan Murray: Gerard Butler
Colin Murray: Brendan Gleeson

ok so far we've got some fans of anime in the house, some discrepancy over a casting choice(i.e matt damon) and some interesting ideas.

@overthehills: i choice wentworth, becuase he has hazel eyes and girls like him. although i'd like the idea of an unknown. if only we could find a set of triplets to fill the role.

@glutton: what kind of story are you writing that has such a 'robust' cast of characters?
