I'm revising my world war II novel, and have reached a point in the middle where my two main characters are attacked for no reason by a lone fighter-bomber. In the earlier drafts, I think I subconciously added this sequence in to simply give the story a quick little jolt. Now, I've hit a solid brick wall. Is this an acceptable thing to do? To simply throw in an action sequence with no connection with the rest of the story? I know it's technically not acceptable, but could I get away with it, or is this just a cheap way to lift up the action?
I got a headache.
Thanks in advance,
