Wannabee novelist and children's writer

I have had one book published (poetry) many years ago in my home country, South Africa, and have some recognition there for that. I am trying to get "a children's story for adults" which everyone who read it really enjoyed reading, but I dont need to tell you how often one gets rejected. Any ideas on where to submit? And dont worry, I am very wary of the scam artists. They wont get a cent out of me or any banking details

Hi Big Tree.

I'm based in SA (JHB) and I'm also looking to publish my work internationally.

What do you mean by "children's story for adults?" Is it a novel, much like HP, where the characters grow up?

Also, do you have an agent? There's a child lit agent in London - Isabella somebody- she's South African and represents a lot of SA writers on the international market.

Let me find the interview for you. I can't remember why I didn't approach her, but now I've landed another agent who I'm satisfied with and won't need her services.

You might also want to enter Macmillan's biennial writeforafrica competition ( www.writeforafrica.com ), which I think starts in January 2007. It's open to all African writers.
