Anyone know of any good movies that have some kind of literary influence?

Movies such as "Dead Poets Society," "Finding Forrester," or the one that stars Michael Douglas (forgot the name of it)?

If you can make a list of the ones you've seen, that would be great!

There is an existing thread on this somewhere, I'll try to find it.

I was going to mention that one also; but then I thought of all the negative things said about the film, and because it's so recent, I left it out. That's just a round about way of saying I wussed out and should've included it at the top of the list.

I don't watch many movies, but it's the best film I've seen in several years. There's so much tension going on throughout that I had trouble breathing even after the credits went blank. And if you've read the book, "In Cold Blood," so much the better, for you'll enjoy the movie that much more.

Thanks for calling me out, blackbird. I needed that, if only to remind me to be more honest sometimes.

Capote, in my opinion, is as much about Harper Lee as it is about Truman Capote.

Just wait until Infamous comes out in December, which is the events surrounding In Cold Blood all over again. Only this time with a major cast list and a little more focus on Harper Lee than last time--or so they say.

I was thinking of 'The Secret Window' too. The way Depp played an edgy writer rubbed off on me, and it left me buzzing with inspiration.

I'm reading Misery at the moment. It's actually an allegory for King's drug and alcohol addiction. Annie is the drugs and booze keeping him prisoner to write.

Misery was pretty good. I also loved Shadowlands, about C.S. Lewis. That one made me cry.

Fantastic! I didn't even know Infamous was in the works. :)

This is a great list you all are contributing to

What's that one with Andy Garcia in it?

Hmm will have to look it up.

"Paperback Hero" It's a little Aussie movie starring Hugh Jackman as a truck driver who writes a romance novel under a woman's pseudomyn.

Basic Instinct? Or Fatal Attraction? Both involve writers ... but neither is particularly accurate about the writer's life.

Wolf, with Jack Nicholson, was pretty good (though it had a lot of ... less than accurate ... details).

Colin Farrel played a writer in "Ask the Dust" a new movie with Selma Hayak. I havent seen it but my sister said it was really good and I tend to trust her reviews. Besides, it's Colin Farrel. Who cares if it's good? (just kidding. only slightly)

Aha, the old memory came back to me.

I recommend this movie too.

"The Man from Elysian Fields" Andy Garcia is the writer.
The secondary characters played by Mick Jagger and James Coburn
almost steal the show from Andy Garcia.
All in all a good movie.

Depp is always good, but this is not one of the highlights of his career.
