Hi all. I am a newbie I suppose. I am reading and reading and learning and learning. I want to write a variety of genres including column rants/raves, location/travel, topic articles, poetry and personal essays and song lyrics -maybe even greeting cards. I am on new elists everywhere and trying to learn the LINGO. Already I am tired of reading and frustrated with all the OTHER competition. BUT i am finally disciplining (is that a word) myself to sit down and WRITE!
Thanks for listening
Kathryn

My advice would be to focus on one or two genres for a while, and devote your energies to developing mastery of those.

As for submitting, I've been making my living as a freelance writer for many years, and querying and rejections are still a drag.:\ But it comes with the territory, and you have to learn to live with it.

Keep writing!;) ;)

If you are interested in trying your hand at greeting card writing,I have a list of 25+ publishers who utilize outside material. The cost for this is$5.My address is:
Darrell Lindsey,1917 Pearl St.,Nacogdoches,Texas 75965
I also critique song lyrics for$5.This will help you assess a song's potential. If it's not commercial,I'll tell you.
Some of my writing credits include "The Distance Between His Hands" recorded by The Don McHan Band
on Power of Truth Records,Music City Song Festival Top 25 Finalist,Poetic Achievement Awards National Runner-up,Gibson Greetings,Snafu Designs,Heart-Felt Greetings,
Songwriter's Monthly,International Record Connection,
etc.
Writing is a noble pursuit, but it's not easy.

It's good that you've accomplished self-dicipline. That's one area I need to work on, myself. Keep writing! :D
