Greetings everyone,

I have submitted my first pb to a few well chosen publishers. It's a few days later now. I'm going through my Children's Writer's Mkt guide and have found a few more that sound "perfect."

Should I wait to get a response from my previous submissions- it probably will take a few months? Should I just send it out to these other 3 small pubs that seem ideal?

Do you think it's easier to break in to the bigger or littler houses? How many pubs do you submit your ms to?

Thanks for all the advice. This forum has been a big help to me. I wouldn't have been able to send anything without it! Thanks.

If you've only got three more on your list to sub to, then I'd sub now. I tended to do ten at a time I think, and then as one came back I'd send it to another, so there were always ten out, if you see what I mean.

As for big vs little, it varies widely. The idea that it's easier to break into the smaller houses is a myth - larger houses have more staff to read the slush and have a bigger turnover so are more likely to take a risk. However, small houses tend to specialise, so if you've written something that particularly fits their area, they may snap you up.

Thanks for your reply, moondance! Your information sounds like a good plan.

I agree about the myth with the smaller houses. When reviewing the children's writers guide, it showed some of the smaller houses only publish a few pb's per year. That's got to be a tough nut to crack, when they're only looking for one nut!

Thanks again. I enjoy all of your posting.
