There's a local non-writing-related magazine where I live (and yes it's reputable, it's in WM), so, one fine day I decided "I want some pre-publishing audience, to see if it's gonna be well received here".

So I called, and got the info.

Would you consider it worth it if the book's not even published/sent to agents yet?

(it's ALMOST finished)

I'm not sure what you are asking here - do you want to publish an excerpt of your book in a magazine to get feedback?

What info did you get, naco? Placing an advertisement for your unfinished book?

I don't think it's worth it. Even if you started querying today, it will still be a year or more before an accepted book makes it to bookstores, and the title will probably change.

Now if you were considering submitting articles to this magazine, as a way of exposing yourself as a writer, then I say go for it.

Hope you don't shoot yourself in the foot.

if you don't have a finished product, it's not likely to appeal as an excerpt - and if you *do* have it finished, I'd sell it first and then work on the excerpts as a way to publicise the book. You'd have to clear it through the publisher ,of course, but it's better than giving away something for nothing or much less than it's worth.

finish it first.
