It seems that ever since I declared my intention to pursue a career in writing, I've been getting wacky advice, mostly from people who know little or nothing about publishing. The most recent bit came this week. My supervisor at work told me about an article she saw in Newsweek, about the exciting benefits of publishing-on-demand. She knows that I have a contract for my first book with Tor, but she was convinced that I would sell more books if I went with a POD instead, since "the books won't cost as much to the readers."
What goofy advice have you been offered?

(At the time, we had just published an historical novel.)
