The Fibonacci thread made me think of another potential form. Last night, as I was falling asleep, something made me think of the Pi Day parties my wife's coworkers used to have. For those who don't know, Pi Day parties are based on the approximate value of pi - 3.14159. So every year, on March 14, at 1:59PM, a bunch of geeks get together and throw themselves a big geekfest.

Now I won't have a chance to try it out for a while yet (too many paying gigs to take the time to write for pleasure - what kind of sick problem is that?), but I wanted to offer it to the community at large in case it might spur something.

The idea is that the beats of each line are one of the digits in the value of pi.

3
1
4
1
5
9

I have my doubts rhythmically about the last line being so long, but let's see where that gets you. :)

could be a fun challenge...

nerdy folk
write
poems according
to
formulas given
in quest of mathematical glee

the kitten
chased
his elusive
tail
round dizzily, as
if by conquering self, he'd rule

I can't find
rhyme
in twenty three
words
although I'll try to
'cause I'm a glutton for punishment

If only
they
would hunt larger
prey
then maybe they could
earn their keep for once, those noisy cats

Don Juans drip
with
sticky false charm
but
gag me with sweetness:
"I only have eyes for you, my love."

I'll gag you
with
something sticky
but
you won't call me love,
inconsiderate pig more likely

It's viable
but
I find myself
lost
when surrounded by
masters of the double entendre

dark clouds are
on
the horizon
it
looks like there might be
rain sometime soon,
perhaps thunder or a lightening show.

hey, someone want to direct me to the Fibonnaci thread? This is genius, and I want to see the other.

*blush*

Okay - I grabbed a moment to try one of my own.

Weariness
feels
like a pool of
sand
collecting around
my legs as I walk the dark road home.

Right - back to the salt mines.

Someday soon
there
will be someone
who

as you did before leaving me here

Here's your breath,
sweet
as when you gave
it
to me on that day
when I traded your breath for my heart
