I've queried an agent through email and they've requested the full manuscript. I have the manuscript printed out and all that jazz, but I was wondering if I should include a SASE. I don't really have a desire to get the manuscript back, and I figure that the agent will just respond through e-mail, right? I want to make sure my assumption is correct, so sorry if this sounds like a "DUH!" question.

Yes it is neccessary, they will respond how they wish but ALWAYS include a SASE for their response.

If you don't want the ms. back, your SASE should just be a business-sized envelope. Add a note that they can recycle the pages.

What Marlys said. Just say "this manuscript is disposible" in your cover letter, and include a regular 39 cent business-sized SASE, and you're good to go. It's likely the agent will choose email to respond, but give him a choice.

IF AND ONLY IF the guidelines say it's OK to omit the SASE, THEN you can leave it out. Otherwise, put one in. It's standard.

Yes, the SASE really is SOP. You don't need to include one the size of your ms if you don't want that back, they don't mind. But you absolutely need to send them a business sized one. They might allow queries via email, but if they're asking you to mail them something, assume their response will be via mail, if not phone call.

It's only going to cost you .39 and an envelope, and save you a major headache.
