Mission to Mars, in Moscow

...Ok I think I might be insane, because my first thought was "Damn! They want a college diploma." (I don't matric until may '08).

It's too bad they can't simulate gravity (or lack thereof), because that's a biggie when it comes to both physical and psychological impact (weee, osteoperosis!). I also wonder about their 'no refills' policy. Surely they must have some kind of abort system in place if the crew's about to starve or something else goes horribly wrong. I mean they're not just going to let them die when they're in the middle of moscow and it's completely preventable.

I heard the EU's fixin' to start a Mars program, too. Maybe this'll whip America back in line re: giving money to NASA. Nothing motivates American space programs faster than the chance that the Russians might beat us to it.

Okay, to make this really fair they need to test three different groups: one with all men, one with all women, and one with both men and women. I'm vaguely remember reading somewhere that women were better suited for long range space missions because they're more willing to cooperate with each other.

oooh, I would not want to see six women locked in a confined area alone for eighteen months... it'd be like an all-girls boarding school magnified a hundred times. There wouldn't be enough days in the week for all the therapy I'd need after a trip like that.

But Mars is a desolate wasteland. I'd much rather go to Europa and peek my head beneath the ice. Maybe something might look back.

I think it would be cool to pick an existing group of buddies and use them as experimental subjects. "Friends" en route to Mars. (Except I've never actually seen "Friends," so I don't really know what I'm talking about.)
