My first SciFi short story. I submitted it to Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine http://www.andromedaspaceways.com/
I'm sub #6527 on their tracking page - http://www.camrin.org/tracking.html
So far I'm in the first selection round.
It's a bit like a public execution. Anyone who's there sees when the head rolls. :)

Man, did I read the subject line wrong. I popped in thinking this was some sort of naval challenge...
Good luck on the submission, though!

Depth charged on the first reading, obviously not enough depth!! :)
Editorial reader's comments were,
Story's too basic for my taste.
Search and rescue with a gimmick...
Both comments quite true, it was a basic S/R story with a gimmick. Funny how I never noticed that. :)
So, now to make it not so basic, change the S/R plot, lose the gimmick, send it again..... perhaps a Naval theme next time.

Bummer about the rejection, Doc.
There's certainly nothing wrong with S&R stories (there can be some great tension in there), but "gimmick" can be pretty subjective. If it's in-your-obvious, then yes, I could see a gimmick detracting. If you've woven it deep and made it "an angle" (a plot point, if you will), then it's more a matter of taste.
And you can't go wrong with naval themes.
...Or you could say that they're rescuing Britney Spears (which would make it a "navel" theme).
