So? Where's the couch?

Hello, I'm Lorrie, aka drgnlvr. I'm a forum junkie, and a "wannabe" writer (Hey, ya gotta wanna be, before you can be, right?). Someone from the NaNoWriMo forums pointed me in this direction, and I've been lurking for the past few days. I have to say, I am impressed. This is unlike other writing forums I've visited in the past. I think I'll stick around for a bit.

So, what do you need to know about me? I'm *coughcoughfortysomethingcoughhack*, have 3 kids, two cats, a fiance who wants to ride my coat-tails to fame, and I work at a call center. The genre I generally work in is...

Well...whatever genre I find a good story to tell in, I guess. Most of my stuff is slippery, at best. Right now, I'm working on a "Dark Fantasy" novel (is that what it is? It has demons, Angels, mental instability, witches, and Shamans, so you tell me), and I hope to get it good enough to reluctantly let go and try to send for publication.

Not sure what the rules are for posting links to your own work, but I have some rough stuff up in a website called Elfwood, and if anyone is interested, I'll cheerfully plug the link.

Now, if you don't mind, I'll just make myself at home here, under the couch, with the dust bunnies, and the cheetos. :lol

Hey Lorrie,

If you hide under the couch you can't see all the nuts running amock around here.

Have some pudding and join in on the fun.

WELCOME!!

If you hide under the couch you can't see all the nuts running amock around here.

On the contrary! I see much when I'm comfortably curled up under a couch (drgns are fairly small creatures as it is). No one notices they're being observed, and I learn much that way. ;)

As for the regulars here being nuts? Well, "normal" is overrated, IMO. And nuts are much more interesting. So with that said, I think I've found a new home. Be prepared for good-natured ankle-biting, invitations to my little domain under the couch (I keep it clean, and I train the dust bunnies to behave), and -alot- of questions! (I'm sure I'll have things to contribute, too, but right now, I'm enjoying the learning)

And thank you and eraser for the warm welcome :D

Welcome, Lorrie. Check out the Share Your Work forum. That's the spot to post snippets of your work for critique and offer some of your own.

drgnlvrljh

Thank you ChunkyC. I will certainly do that. As soon as I get a little polish in it. ;)

Welcome, Ankle Biter!

Would you like something other than cheetos to eat? I can make certain I drop something from time to time for you and the dust bunnies. I also probably should warn you that some people around these parts start doing weird things like cleaning *shuddergasp* when they're blocked, so don't take it amiss if the couch should suddenly move. It won't be you they're after; they're just trying to recapture the muse.

drgnlvrljh

:\ Clean?! Under the couch?! *whimpers*

I guess that means I'm going to have to move in that dimensional rift I have, just so my dustbunnies will have a bolt hole when that happens. :D

Of course, that just means there's even more room under here to party. :)

Demons, Angels, mental instability, witches, and Shamans? Sounds like my kind of book.

Welcome aboard!

And, since you're writing Dark Fantasy right now, you may want to check out the Humour Forum. Don't worry, that suggestion isn't as off the wall as it seems. There was an interesting thread in there about the use of humour in dark fantasy.

Hi, Lorrie, and welcome. My couch is very heavy, and low to the ground. Not much room, but I hardly ever clean there.

You know, this could be even more fun if I can play with color and font!

Hiya, drgnlvrljh, (that's a mouthful)

Welcome aboard--mixed nuts and insanity, here.
Funny that you should post a comment by Gary. 15 years ago I beat him out in competition for a horror radio script and he never forgave me. To the publisher he ranted, "I"ve been
cajoled by a nobody?" He's so right.
I've continued to be a nobody to this very day. I'm just a big peaceful browser, thick skinned and just as horny as I was back then.

Thanks for the welcome, all! :D

peer54: I took a look, thanks for directing me there! And I agree, you've got to toss in some humour in dark fantasy or horror, otherwise it get -too- tense and your readers just can't deal with it.

Hi Jill! Couch low? That's okay, drgns are good about fitting in small spaces ;) And it sounds like there are even more dust bunnies to train (More minions! Buahahahahaha!)

Trike, you know the person I'm quoting?! LOL! I'll admit, I don't. ;) I just came across the quote and thought it was a good truism.

Well, I finally screwed up the courage to post the link to my current WIP in the "Share Your Work" section. I know it's still rough, but I seem to be feeling stuck with the chapter. I don't think it's as good as it can be and could sure use some pointers.

*btw...anyone here familiar with rock climbing?*

Arisa81

:) Welcome Lorrie :)

I've only done rock climbing at those indoor rock houses, but I loved it heh...
probably too much of a chicken to try the real thing

drgnlvrljh

Arisa, that's about 100 times more experience than I've got, and at the time I wrote the rock-climbing/wall-crawler scene, I had no one to ask about it. I pretty much faked it (and it's obvious), and want some feedback on where I'm wrong, and how to fix it.

At least I have a point of reference, anyway (and you can't tell someone what's wrong with their stew, if you don't have any stew to start with, right?).

So, if you can get through that mess I posted, your suggestions will be very welcomed. :D
