I am a new member and I wanted to take the opportunity to say hello to everyone and to introduce myself. I am a "professional" historian in the sense that I have a full time research appointment at a major research university. In addition, I teach history at the local community college as well. I have been a volunteer firefighter for eight years as well.
As far as writing is concerned, it is something that I have always done...at least as far back as I can remember. But unfortunately graduate school and the academic world conspired to rob me of creativity. I have only recently found the "spark" that I used to have. I am currently working on a novel which deals with the Confederate plot to burn down New York City in 1864.
So far I have enjoyed reading through all the posts. This board seems very helpful. I am happy to be aboard.
