I have my book out with two editors, who've both had it at least three months.

Since then I've gotten reports from several other readers all giving me the same feedback as to what's needed for a rewrite.

Now that I've gone in and started full repairs, especially on the second half, I'm wondering how wrong it would be for me to notify the editors still reading the book and ask them if they'd rather see the rewrite.

I would wait for the editors's report, really. They probably have things the other people didn't see. They are professionals and look with a different pair of eyes, really.

I'd wait and let them tell you what they want. They might like it as is, or see something entirely different they would like changed.

Just my 2 cents.

You do not resubmit a ms. with rewrites unless the editor asks for it. Otherwise, it would be the first indication that you don't know what you WERE doing and a great excuse for them to toss the ms. in the reject bin.

Exactly. Just like you don't volunteer reasons when you get pulled over and the cop asks, "Do you know why I pulled you over?" Just wait and see what they say.

Miss Snark has weighed in on this issue and came down emphatically on the DO NOT send updated pages. NO MATTER WHAT. Well, unless asked to, of course.

I'm hearing the message and will abide by the community. Maybe I'll just put the revised manuscript in an envelope and mail it to myself.

The irony will be if either of these editors likes the pre-revision manuscript, forcing me to go back to the old version, which I no longer prefer.
