I found this quote from Michael Blake who won an Oscar for writing (adapting from his novel) Dances with Wolves.
About his writing process he says:
"Pretty much as soon as I hit the chair, I'm working. First thing I do is crank up the music - it's absolutely critical to my process - as loud as I can, to the point where it's overwhelming and shuts out all other distractions. I also use marijuana frequently as a way to focus myself. I don't know whether I'm clinically addicted or not, but I think for me marijuana really enhances my ability to focus and my ability to concentrate on the task at hand. If I omitted that, I wouldn't be telling the whole truth. Marijuana is one of the tools I use. Music is another."
