How would I go about publishing poetry? I've been involved mostly in novel writing since I was a child, but I do enjoy poetry very much and have dabbled slightly in the writing of poetry.

Honestly, though, I am lost when it comes to the publishing of my work. What kind of publishers usually deal with poets and also, what kind of submission guidelines will I need to know (formatting, submissions etiquette, etc.)?

Thank you all kindly for your answers. I appreciate them very much.

Sean, get hold of the Poet's Market; it'll have different markets and guidelines listed. I use the Christian Writer's Market as well, as most of my poetry is religious poetry. Good luck!

From what I know of poetry markets, it's usually best to get single poems published in journals and such and then attempting to publish a full book. Of course I haven't made it far enough to publish a book yet. so, my advice might not be worth much.

I looked into the same thing myself. I had heard it is quite defficult to publish poetry as people tend to be more into novels or short stories, it's not as in demand as other such things are. So I don't have much answers either, I am in the same boat. Wish I could be of more service but I just want to let you know you aren't the only one :-)
Good luck to you.
