I recently got an agent, and she'd like me to send her some clips to show to publishers. The problem is that some of my best clips were, well, slightly mangled upon publication.
For instance, one article I'm fairly proud of originally listed several examples of something, but the editors nixed all but one of those examples, while forgetting to take out the plural reference. (Now it says, "here are some examples," then goes on to list only one.)
Similarly, I'd like to send a few clips that were published in e-mail newsletters, but the funky formatting of these newsletters makes the print-outs looks awful.
So my questions are these: Must I send a poorly edited magazine page or a crazily formatted e-newsletter to prove I've been published? Would it be enough to send my original (typo-free) document with a citation that reads "Published at XYZ, 4/03"?
