I started this short story knowing I couldn't move on my novel, and wanted a fresh taste before going back.

What was supposed to be a tight plot about about a MC in purgatory has clocked past 2000 words and he's still alive! I really want to kill the sucker, but the story is flowing so well and growing beyond just what he does in this world of ghosts.

Do I just go with it, see where it takes me? I've been so hung up on outlines and grand scale stories that the lack of detail scares me. But I also feel a little liberated...

Any ideas for JIT outlining?

Hi Matt,

Been there, bought that t-shirt. You never know where the story may end, so enjoy the ride.

What you thought was to be a short story may actually be a novel. I know, scary thought. Or not, but you won't know unless you write.

Best,

Karen
