i love that he "helped fund" all these h-wood heavyweights, but it's a "you get paid if i get paid" opportunity...

Hmm,
he's a major funder of all these big guys (
) and yet hasn't seemed to ask them one thing about working with his screenplay.
Doesn't exactly inspire my confidence.

I'd love to go through a patronising selection process before flying to Austin, Texas to brainstorm a screenplay with some guy I never met before but I've already agreed to drop six large into a riverboat casino called The Three Card Monte with a mature grad from Florida State.

I'm half-tempted to do this and then give him nothing but really bad ideas. "Hey, know what this script needs? An elephant crapping on a baby," or, "You know, I think if your lead was a one-eyed albino midget with a detachable third nipple, you might just have something here."
You've gotta love a guy so obviously generous. You may not get paid and, of course, his name goes first? **** me, I'm sold!

This could totally be a scam, of course. But I went ahead and emailed the guy.
For all I know, this could be totally legit, and for any number of reasons, the guy wants to do it this way. It could be a great opportunity, or it could be a waste of time.
I have a pretty good B.S. sense, though, and I'll run screaming if it starts to go off.

The craigslist poster had a dream. that dream was to be a screenwriter. But he had to put aside that dream and entered the business world. A world in which he became a success, and was able to help fund a production company that produced a lot of major hits for major stars.
But he didn't want to tell you what that company was or who the stars were. but believe him, they were MAJOR. And he couldn't put your script infront of the Execs in charge of getting new material.
However, he was generous enough to let you write his 2nd draft of a screenplay. He'd even put your name after his.
That's fair right? I mean, he's already written the 1st draft, and come up with the idea.
The hard parts over, right?

Now I won't get access to his high-level contacts in the industry.
And that makes me sad.
Anyone else get a ping from this guy after you wrote? Just curious. Don't divulge any secret details, just a simple "Dammit, no!" or "Maybe I did... and maybe I didn't..." will suffice.

I presume this was posted by Robert Rodriguez. After Lava Boy & Shark Girl and Once Upon a Time in Mexico, he needs all the writing help he can get.
