If I send questions in a letter or e-mail to a public figure, is a written response from that person publishable without getting specific permission to do so? To be specific: I have sent letters and e-mails with questions related to faith and belief to various religious leaders. Some have responded, and I would like to use their replies in a manuscript I am writing (I had originally thought it would be an article, but it may become long enough for a book).

to the forum. I'm not totally sure, but my feeling is that it's polite and the right thing to write the ones you got responses from and ask if they would mind if you use what they responded to you. Hope that helps. (Definitely not legal advice like you said
)
