Publisher want first three chapters sent in "standard serif typeface"!
What pray tell is that?

Serifs are theose little extra squiggles on a letter.

Size increase for clarity

Size increase for clarity

The first "Size..." line is a serif font. The second is sans serif (ie.without serif) Notice the extra little lines on the capital ess and the lower case eye? See the little feet on the lower case enn?

Those are serifs. They make text easier to read. Courier has serifs.

So does Times New Roman.

Serifs are the little extra "ends" on letters.

This font is sans serif (without serifs).
So is this one.
____

This is Times New Roman, a font with serifs.
So is Courier New.

Use Courier 12. Your editor will thank you to no end. I think there will come a day when some editors start mailing letter bombs along with the rejection slips to anyone who uses Times New Roman. Trying to squeeze proofreaders' marks in with Times New Roman takes the eyes of an Eagle and the patience of a buzzard.
