....Getting my short fiction published?

I am normally a regular in the 'Writing Novels' section, but to be honest I do enjoy writing short fiction, as well. The problem is, I'm geared mostly toward trying to get a novel published, not short fiction. I don't know the first thing about the market, or how it works, or what.

So like I asked already, I ask again:

How would I go about getting my short fiction published?

For those who might need to know, I generally write short short stories, and mostly of the humor or fantasy genres.

Thanks in advance for your answers, everyone.

Read publications that publish the type of fiction that you write and become familiar with what each publication seems to use.

Read the guidelines for that publication and follow them when you submit.

Hone your stories until they are the best you can make them, error free (spelling, grammar, format) and as close to perfect as possible.

Submit and wait.

Good luck!!

Home - but for how long?
Markets for short stories.

Find the magazines in the markets' lists stickied to the top of this thread. I've just added some new ones.

The only real differences are that, when you submit short fiction, you:

-Don't need an agent. (And most agents won't bother. 15% of a short fiction paycheck ain't much.)

-Submit the entire story. Don't bother querying or sending a partial.

-Don't talk about what the story's about in the cover letter.

The market lists should get you started. Overall, it's the same process. Include a SASE, mail it off, sacrifice a goat or two to the writing gods, and start working on the next one.
