I am writing away on a book chapter which is intended to be narrative, academic and for a general audience, essay style (1-5k). I am thinking Stephen J Gould territory.

I would welcome input on what help make a good narrative academic essay. I am thinking....

* An overall point that is coherent and informal but rigorous.
* An element of humor and use of personal anecdote when appropriate
* Points informed by research and other non-fiction but not cited in text (bibiliogrpahy at end)

any thoughts?

And by "rigorous" you mean ...? Strictly not straying from the point? If so, I think that maybe a teensy bit of straying might be cool, just one or two related asides, but other than that, it sounds good. Is it going to be illustrated?

All blessings,
Ashleen
