Is anybody else waiting for people to decide on their book?

I'm scribbling away on the sinking ship of my bank account, praying for a new whale to catch the bait on my anchor and pick me up a while.

Am I the only one?

Yes, and it's driving me to the brink of madness. But I'm keeping my head down and putting the spit polish on another manuscript.

Waiting is a sail in the park if you have the dreaded "DAY JOB" like I do.

Seriously, badducky, no way are you the only one. Best of luck. I hope you get positive news soon.

I'm waiting for my script to be put into an interactive module on a film site and start production, my other one to start applying for funding. And to hear back from a submission to a publisher. I should know somewhere between October and December if they want it or not. 9-12 month waiting period, gotta love it.

So I don't think about any of them, I just write. :)

::Raises hand::

Technically, it will probably be a few more days before my agent gets the book turned in to my publisher. But I've already started the nail-biting, waiting to learn whether the sale of the first two books was a fluke. (This is a new series, so I have no idea what's going to happen.)

I'm waiting on three books, right now. Let's all sing along:

(chorus): "Waiting, waiting, waiting for the hammer to DROP..."

You can deal with this in one of two ways.

1.) Wait patiently, and keep yourself busy.

or

2.) Go clinically bugshit insane.

I'm pretty sure I've chosen #1, so I have other things to fill my time. Right now there's this giant mutant leprechaun, informing me (via telepathy, since I forgot my aluminum hat) that its laptop needs repairs. So alas, I must bid adieu to the Giant Pink Elephant Council of Elders, which has been meeting in my office for some reason, saddle up my winged turtle, and fly through the Gibbeous Zone to the mutant leprechaun's abode.

Then it's a good thing you're keeping a clear head about you.

What's the difference between a good mixed metaphor and a bad one?

A good one is supposed to be nonsensical for comedic, over-the-top, artistic reasons.

I may have been walking on the grass, officer, but I was retrieving my pants which I had inadvertantly thrown upon the grass. Whoops, there they go again! Silly pants!

Do the mixed metaphor police consume coffee and donuts, or do they consume OJ and bagels and merely refer to them as coffee and donuts?

I'm waiting on two, a short story and my first novel. The novel is taking way too long for my liking, but I was spoiled by a quick response from the previous try.

I don't really think about it, since I'm focused on another novel now.

Yes.
I'm waiting on my first novel at two different publishers (one a requested resubmission), plus an agent.
Mailfear rating - into the redzone.

Nope. Sent out 13 queries, have back two rejections. Three of the ones which are Out There are e-queries, and the rest are snail mail; one of the e-queries is to an agent who says on her blog she's caught up 'til April. I don't expect to hear from her or the snailfolk yet. As for the other two... the longer they take the longer I can delude myself that they're planning the promotional blitz for my brilliant new novel.

Yup. Been waiting quite awhile, actually. Agent hasn't given up hope, luckily, and in the meantime I wrote an entirely new novel. So at least I'm productively waiting.

I am waiting on 2 books at 2 different publishers; one's been there for 2 years, and the other for 2 days. I'm also waiting on about 40 poetry and devotional submissions.

You're in good company :) .

You present these options as though they were mutually exclusive!

I don't have trouble keeping myself busy. My problem is that I am keeping myself so busy (day jobs,) I'm finding little time to write. W hen I do find time, I am so darned exhausted...

Update on my wait.
Heard back this morning from one of the publishers.
Novel went to the acquisitions committee and they turned it down.
Plenty of praise for the writing, but the plot wasn't 'big enough or different enough.'

I think I'll go with #2. If I can manage insanity, but not lose my grip on English, I'm almost ASSURED publication.

Zoinks! Two years? I've only been waiting four months. You mean that this is only the tip of the iceberg? The overture to Les Miserable? The first boot in the *** thanks to the secretly placed "kick me" sign on my back? That path to the mailbox is about to get deeper. BTW- Ducky, why are you throwing your pants around in public? That's indecent exposure, and in my case, assault with the intent to sicken.

Good luck--with the submission and the bedrest! Both my babies were bedrest babies; one was for 3 1/2 months, and the other 2 1/2. Those were pre-laptop days; with the first one, I can remember finishing up my thesis with my right hand (I had to lie on my left side). My husband put the entire desktop computer in bed with me. Hang in there, and take care of those babies :) .
