Does anyone know any good flash fiction resources? I know that I can easily search in google to find some, but I am more interested in reccomendations- sites or books that have personally helped you.

Thanks in advance!

Home - but for how long?
Ah me!

Did you look in the Markets sticky at the top of this thread?
There are several flash fiction markets and market lists mentioned!

Liberty Hall runs a weekly timed flash challenge that has been invaluable to me in producing both flash and regular short stories. To see most of the content, though, you'll need an invite to get in. The Notebored has an even broader range of challenges, including a true flash challenge without the same time constraint. Admittance to it is handled much the same. Both have been immensely helpful to me, and both are frequented by skilled writers of flash fiction. Either one would be a great place to ask this, or just start a thread asking for advice.

I should have been more specific. Sorry! I am not looking for markets, but more like a how-to. My problem is that I used to write flash fiction and was pretty good at it. I am out of touch and tried to write my first flash in a few years and it didn't go well. I am rusty and seem to have forgotten what to do!

Liberty Hall has more information along those lines, most of it running in sync with their weekly flash challenge. There are frequent discussion threads about how people go about producing a flash story, generally from a provided trigger and in a set amount of time. To see most of that stuff, though, you have to be a member. I strongly recommend their flash challenges to folk who are serious about improving their craft or producing a larger volume of work.

How do I log-in to Liberty Hall? I looked for it under forums and couldn't find it. Thanks

Since Liberty Hall is a password-protected community, you'll have to contact the admin (unless you know a member who can hook you up with an invite) to get in. The folk at Liberty Hall take their writing fairly seriously (though we sure have fun taking it seriously!) They also take the prevention of spam very seriously. Therefore, the site owner likes to screen people before bringing them in. Most of the content on the site is only visible after you are registered. The Notebored runs on a similar approach.

Denise, do I know you from LH?

Thanks, Denise and Minister! Minister, Denise knows me from Scrawl. Denise, thanks for posting the link.

I run Liberty Hall when the inmates there let me. :) It takes an invite to get in. I do this to keep the crazies out. You can find out more, here: http://www.libertyhallwriters.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=10

Liberty Hall is fairly focused. To some that means dull. To others, it means writing more stories than they ever believed they could.

LH has been running since April 2005. In that period our challenges have resulted in over 1,020 stories that would not otherwise have been written.

We also hold quarterly contests. So far, Shimmer, Apex Digest and The Town Drunk have sponsored our contests. That means that the editors of these magazines review the contest entries and select one or more for publication. It is fun for us and works well for them.

Here's a blog in which the managing editor of Apex Digest mentions LH. http://blog.apexdigest.com/articles/2006/06/20/insults-and-compliments
