Right, so I got this idea a few day's ago and I've been toying around with it ever since. However I'm not to sure if I should or shouldn't which is why I'm posting it here.

The idea I got was to write a short story with either my mom as the main character, or someone very similar to her. Either way it would be a short actiony kinda thing since she seems to like those.

Anyways, point of this thread was, I'm wondering if those who are mothers here, would you want to get a short story from your kid as a mother's day gift? I mean, would such a thing be more appreciated than say a standard gift of like a card or something?

That's a nice sentiment, and she'll probably love it. Keep in mind you're stepping on shaky ground, though. You'd better portray her in the best possible light, or she might end up being offended.

Family members are fertile ground to plunder for stories. I do it all the time. In my case, I could care less whether they like what I have to say. If I worried about their feelings, all my work would end up reading like a Mary Poppins rip-off.

Moms are different, though. I can't bring myself to write about mine. She'd end up looking like Joan Crawford on her worst day.

My mom loves when I write things for her/about her. Just remember that there's a thin line and as the above poster said, sending flowers is a safer bet! ;)

As a mom, I would LOVE this. It's far more personal than flowers or a card, shows you cared enough to put some effort into the gift, and know her well enough to know what kind of story she likes.

As the other responders said, portray her in a positive light. I think it's a great idea.
