Delacorte First Young Adult Novel Contest

cordell

Howdy,

Did anyone enter the contest? Has anyone heard anything? The winner is supposed to be notified by April 30. I entered back in October, and it's finally making me nervous that the results are so close. I'd love to hear what others have heard or entered.

Thanks!

It sounds to me like you're still in the running. Congratulations. I got my rejection about a month ago.

Hi Cordell,

I entered this contest in 2003 and waited anxiously for word through April 2004. I received a letter, dated May 5th, 2004, telling me that my entry was not a winner. The editor who wrote the letter did offer some praise -- and criticism -- for the manuscript and suggested I make some changes and resubmit it. I made those changes and resubmitted it in August 2004. I am still waiting for a response. (I did receive confirmation in May 2005 that it was "still under consideration."

Good luck to you! I hope your news is better (and without the waiting)!

What was interesting is that there was NO winner that year!

Don't give up hope! I had a similar experience with the Vogel Literary Award in Australia (which is a manuscript award). I entered and didn't hear anything, and then they announced the winners, and I wasn't among them. I was really disappointed, but the publishing house came back to me and asked me to edit and resubmit, which I did, and they published it! But it took almost a whole year for them to get back to me.
Delacorte is a great imprint to be with, too. They publish my books in the States and they've been super to work with.
So, no news can be fabby news. I hope this is the case for you.
