In particular the slush forum? The instructions insist that this is the smart way to go, if you're still a "new" writer, as defined by Writers of the Future." I see loads of stories posted there, but I have no feel whatsoever for whether each story is actually looked at by an official reader, or if they only read the ones that have the most reader comments. It's a brand new mag (first issue, June '06), so I can't get a copy of the publication to see what they like/don't like, or where their authors are coming from. Any experiences with this mag, anyone?

Yep, both to the slush forum and the regular submission method. If you're unpublished, you should give the slush forum a shot; basically, if you get LOTS of feedback from the Bar Flies (really), then there's a good shot you'll get editor interest. Sometimes, Eric or Jim himself will comment on the stories there. The bad news: unless you hear something positive, consider the story rejected, even if you never hear back.

But if you want the non-feedback, uber-quick response route, go via the regular submission. (I've scored only "right track" form responses this route.)

Hmm...Very interesting. Thanks. I'm assuming then that they don't have any problem with simsubs, at least when you're posting on the slush forum. So I guess it can't hurt to sub a story someplace else and post it there too. I'm guessing, though, that you've got a better chance of getting feedback from the other folk hanging around if you go comment on their stories, which could wind up being rather time-consuming.
