In reasearching my novel, the NPS historian referred to the Signal report for that year. He was going to make a copy for me, but he can't find it.

I've tried to locate this information on-line, but no luck and through libraries, but that would involved travel to look at documents I'm not sure is what I need.

Is anyone familiar with the Signal Reports? What format they're written in, where to obtain them?

NPS and Signal Report have many meanings. What exactly are you seeking?

Sorry.

National Park Service

They are weather reports I believe the Chief Signal Officer of the Army made in the 1800's .

I have been given some leads by our librarian, but before I began hunting, I was wondering if anyone here was already familiar with the best way to access the reports.

Contact the NPS public information officer at DOI and see if he/she can help you.

Do NPS historians research novels for writers? This sounds like a very generous thing for them to do.

No, but the National Park Service employs historians who man visitor centers. The gentleman I spoke to was a wealth of information, knowledgeable about details known and what is still unknown.

So, if your story in anyway overlaps with a National Park, or its surrounding area, it is worthwhile to talk to the Park personnel.

Visitor centers are usually run by interpretive rangers. I know this, since I was formerly one at the Presidio of San Francisco.

There are NPS historians, and they're a great source of info.

Psst, Laurie. I think Vomaxx was trying to indicate your sentence construction said something different than you'd intended.

Then I lucked out. I got a historian at the Visitor's Center.
