Young Authors Contest? Do they still do that?

OK, almost twenty years ago when I was in grade school, I participated in the Young Author's contest. Now that I have grade school aged children, I'm wondering if they still have this contest? Our school doesn't participate, if they do, and I was wondering if a child could get involved without a school's contest?

My 6 1/2 year old just came to me this morning with several written and illustrated pages and asked if I could staple it together. Obviously very basic and sweet, but it got me thinking about that contest. Her dream of the week is to be a "book writer" when she grows up. Teehee, I think it's neat considering that's what *I* want to be when *I* grow up! I haven't ever told her that.

So I was wondering if anyone knew?

The annual Children's Writer's & Illustrator's Market lists legitimate writing contests. Some are for young writers, some are for first-timers and a few are open to everyone.

It should be in any library's Reference section.

LOL SHOULD be. We'll see if it's in ours. I've been in high school libraries that are more complete than this town's. LOL Thanks!

As suspected, the closest library that has this book is almost two hours away and it's not within the network that would transfer the book from library to library. Oh well, I'll probably end up buying it anyway...

Thanks again for the direction!

ETA: I made some calls anyway and did locate a local library that has the book. It just wasn't listed on their online card catalog.

In my children's school it is sponsored by the PTA. The winners of the school contest go on to compete in a district-wide contest, and then county and state. Since there are so many homeschooled kids now, there is probably some way for kids whose schools do not sponsor the event to participate. Have you tried a Web search?
