Let's see if we can start a topic here. Where do you get your inspiration from? For me, it's all around me. I get inspired to write a story based on something a child around is doing, or something someone says. My kids are the biggest inspiration for me.

In fact I got inspired to write a new story based on something my daughter did. it was so inspiring that I asked my daughter to write it with me. She's only 6 so it's exciting for her, and rewarding for me.

I get most of my inspiration from "oldies." I write mostly YA novels. While listening to some of the lyrics of the old songs from the 60s, they spark my imagination and I create a story based on them. It's fun.

I'm lucky. I live with 3 fellas that range in ages 8, 13, and 17, so I have a lot of amunition for great story concepts. In fact all of my stories have a bit of at least one of my sons in them.

Mostly from my daughter and her friends. Someone will make a comment, and BLAM! There is a story!

Other than that, I get impiration from everywhere. Just look at the world through a child's eye.

Mythology

Hello all, I am inspired by myths and legends from the Greek and Norse mythologies. Re-tell a story or frame it in a contemporary (or other) setting.

I've been inspired by my kids, my grandkids, and my dogs. The interaction of all of them creates situations that I couldn't invent. Theres humor, suspense, drama and adventure.

Mostly my imagination running wild. Even just surfing the web sparks ideas. And those two words: "What if?"

yeah...what if...two of the best words EVER!

Inspiration, That of which

Inspiration, This is the subject of one of my books.

"Inspiration, That of which gives great minds great minds."
Quote From, The other side. by Curtis Barnett.

The things that get my heart beating. The things we see, feel and read, a dip into our, past, our feature, our dreams.
but most of all its practice.
Try this, Look at an item directly in-front of you,(not your computer), look at it for a few minutes, begin telling a story about it. this will lead you to another place. Now start writing.
More ideas and inspiration

every day inspiration

I just did a workshop with kids where we used five every day objects and came up with story ideas that could spring from each one. The kids were so creative and I was amazed at the number of ideas and the variety of the settings and plots that they imagined...

As for me, I am inspired by other artists and often by things that make me angry or bring up some other extreme emotion. I like to focus on a certain emotion as I write.

Past and present

Like most writing parents, I'm also inspired by my daughter and our day to day interaction. I'm also inspired by childhood memories and local stories and legends my parents told us as kids. Am also inspired by folktales from different countries.

I make little drawings. I've done that all my life. Usually those little drawings 'come' with a story. I write it down. Sometimes it can take years before a drawing 'talks' to me. Everything I have written before I have thrown away. This time I decided to go on, and recently I finished my first book. It felt really good. I have already started the next, also inspired from a drawing I made years ago.
