Trivia is a passion of mine and I have been writing a book on Movie trivia for a couple years. The book is being laid out in chapters each on a different movie. Inside the book, the movie title will be referenced in the Chapter title. In addition the movie itself was used to make up the questions in each chapter.

An example of one of my questions would be. "In the 1970's film 'Superman' What was Clark Kent's Kryptonian name?"

My question is about legalities of my book. Would I need permission from each studio to write such a book, or can I do it without their permission since I am not really plagorizing their movie?

Might want to start with a third party fact checker - It's "Kryptonian."

I mention this because I'm on a mailing list for a 1960's TV show that just recieved a fan-published trivia book on the series. The wording of the questions is bad enough enough, but the author is just out and out wrong on a number of questions, and this list is just ripping the book apart. Instead of gathering support, he's destroyed his credibility with his primary target audience.

Our resident lawyer, Jaws, may weigh in on this but in the meantime why not go to your local bookstore and look for similar trivia books? Check to see if those authors listed permissions.
