that the humor writing board is being a bit neglected lately? Think it's because it's now being done in almost every board? A take-over seems imminent.

We are the comics. Resistance is futile. Prepare to be entertained...:jump

This is the House of the Humor Hounds, and as such will always be the base of operations. Now, the other forums are getting a dose of what Barb has had to contend with all by her lonsesome, for several months. Ain't it grand?

No prisoners!

Okay, did everybody go to the bathroom?
Don't forget your sweaters, it might get cold.
Oh, and don't forget to be back in time for the weekend report!

Have fun kiddies! (look out world!)

And we do come back here at least once a week to report our individual progress in the ongoing efforts to 1) Dominate the internet, 2) Take over the world, and 3) Get Liam elected president.

Liam for president? Well, he is kinda cute and he's smart, too, and he's a former Marine - heck, yeah, he's got my vote! I'll even help collect campaign funds...

Liam for President!!

Donations can be made to a numbered account off the Camans... contact the Empress at helpliamgetelected@whaddasuckeryouare for further details.

That our esteemed Barb is now listed on the masthead as co-mod of this loony bin?

Her whip has been sanctioned by the Powers-That-Be.

Congrats Barb!

And, as I heard somewhere else on this forum recently, "condolences" too. :thumbs

Welcome to mod madness, Barb! And keep your whip handy, you'll probably need it. Actually, mods need to be more flexible than average, so I bought you a new whip as a welcome gift. Enjoy!

Bwa-ha-ha!

Of course, I have no idea how to use it. But isn't that what power is all about?

Oh, and 'grats, Mr. Eraser. You're going to be a most excellent addition to the Mod Squad.

So we ended up going out for drinks.

Um...Barb, that's not actually a whip, it's a rhythmic gymnastics ribbon. (you knew that when you gave it to her, didn't you Betty?)

What you need is something a little more lethal when used incorrectly....

In the hands of a master, even a gymno ribbon can be.... important.

:rofl Ace, your line made me think of one of the dumbest movies ever made, where US Olympic gymnast Kurt Thomas plays a spy....just scroll down to the review. Hilarious and accurate.

Gymkata (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089243/)

Oh yeah. I remember that movie (saw it on HBO or Showtime or something).

I'll just stick with Jackie Chan movies.

I saw that movie too.

It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad!

He was kicking the crap out of a bunch of enemy goons in the climax while flopping around on a pummel horse. The bad guys waited thier turn to present thier chins - arms defenselessly outstretched as if surprised that they would get kicked by flailing feet if they put thier face in the path....- for impact.

Gosh it was stupid.

Then he had a conversation with himself, flipping to one side then back to impress a girl.

Maybe it works, my wife flips me off constantly (hey at my age thats the extent of sex in my house)

Looks like the same guy who wrote Gymkata also wrote the screen story for Blind Fury, the one with Rutger Hauer, the blind 'Nam vet with the sword.

I think I saw part of that movie on late night cable once. Got bored after half an hour. Anybody see the whole thing?

Yeah, he was pummelling his opponents, har har! And how convenient that pile of hay was just the right height and had two perfectly spaced handles protruding from the top.

What gets me is that somebody actually thought it was worth shelling out the cash to make that piece of crap.

But people watched it and they made money, didn't they
Did they? I would be shocked. Then again, judging by the quality of the production, they didn't spend much to begin with, so even a modest box office take might have let them break even.

maestrowork
10-08-2004, 02:36 AM
CC, box office means nothing. It's video, pay TV, DVD, etc... you'd be surprised how much money they make in those markets.

ChunkyC
10-08-2004, 04:11 AM
box office means nothing
Oh I dunno about that. Ask Peter Jackson to give back the box office receipts from LOTR and see what he says. :grin

But I concede your point. Though I can't imagine anyone not feeling ripped off if they spent pay-per-view cash for that turkey.

maestrowork
10-08-2004, 08:12 PM
Oh you know what I mean... I mean the ones that don't sell well in theaters or just straight-to-video stuff. I know at least 3 "low-budget" straight-to-video filmmakers who are making money and you don't even know it. Sure, it's not Hollywood blockbusters, but the profit margin on those babies are ludicrous.

ChunkyC
10-08-2004, 10:01 PM
I wuz jus' razzin' ya. I know what you mean. To go back to the beginning, I just find it hard to fathom a producer listening to a pitch for a movie like Gymkata and leaping out of their seat, saying "What a fabulous idea! Here's a blank check, go make that baby!", you know? Especially when you hear about blockbusters like LOTR being turned down multiple times before finally being picked up.

One word: Mariah Carey in Glitter.

(okay...that's actually four words, but you know what I mean)

ChunkyC
10-09-2004, 04:33 AM
Exactly, Ace. Though Mariah's name had the potential to draw a much bigger movie audience than a previously unknown gymnast* ... which makes her failure all the more spectacular.

* previous to the Olympics Kurt did well in just before doing Gymkata
