Hello. I just joined this forum. I was directed here by a friend.

I mostly write Young Adult fiction and wondered if this is the place to ask questions and post about it. I didn't see a YA board so figured it might be grouped in here with childrens. http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/images/smilies/emoticonhi.gif

By the way my name is Gypsy and I live in South Carolina. I'm happy to be here. http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Welcome to AW! :welcome: I write YA as well (contemporary and fantasy, thus far). In fact, I'm working on the final draft of one right now. :) What kind do you write?

Thank you for the welcome. http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Congratulations on being on your final draft! http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/images/smilies/emoteThumbs.gif I still have a long way to go before I even start revising.

I always tried to write high fantasy when I was younger but it didn't really mix with me well. My current novel would probably be classed as modern/urban fantasy. My last one that didn't turn out so well was a historical fantasy taking place in the late 1800's. My favorite sort is modern fantasy.

Welcome, Watermonkey! :welcome:, :e2drown:

This forum is good for YA questions. You might want to check out the Sci-Fi/Fantasy forum down in another section, & for general novel questions, Writing Novels is good. When you're ready to get some critiquing on your write, there's a section called Share Your Work, where you can post a few pages of your novel. Children's & SF/F sections there usually have people respond pretty quickly, especially if you've critted others. (that's also a good place to learn, by seeing what others comment on.)

Hope that helps.

Hi Everyone,

After a disturbing interaction with Children's Literary Agency, I decided I'd better start doing some SERIOUS research before I get myself scammed.

I'm currently working on a YA novel with a supernatural theme. According to the synopsis, it's going to be 19 chapters and I'm currently on chapter 12.

So I just thought I'd swing by and say Hi.

Does anyone know where I could find a list of imprints that publish YA and accept submissions/queries by unagented writers?

Thanks!
Jerry

Hello! http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

How great that you're so far in already. I'm shooting for around the same chapter length on my YA novel but am still way back at chapter 4. http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif

I'm sorry, I don't know of a particular list of just YA. I've just been looking through the regular market guide for those that publish YA. Good luck. http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

Hi Jerry, if you're looking for YA publishers who work with unagented materials, your best bet is to check out the CHILDREN'S WRITERS & ILLUSTRATOR'S MARKET (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1582974020/) or other similar resources. When you've got a list, check out their Web sites for the latest contact information and submission guidelines. http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

And, by the way, cool thread. http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif I both write and edit YA -- I like fantasy (e.g. Ursula Le Guin, Lois Lowry) and other more contemporary stuff.

Welcome! David's right: Get hold of the 2006 Children's Writer's and Illustrator's Market. Best place to start.
