View Full Version : THE THREAD THAT WOULD NOT DIE (aka Songs That Drive You Crazy)
Lori Basiewicz

Why is it some songs have the power to stick into your head and play themselves out over and over again. We're not talking about tunes that you grew up on here or even ones you particularly enjoy.
For instance:
I'm going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come. They got a crazy way of lovin' there, and I'm gonna get me some.

Lori, Remember that column I wrote where after I posted the link everyone kindly "gave" me their songs?
This is the factual article that inspired it:
content.health.msn.com/co.../67505.htm (http://content.health.msn.com/content/article/61/67505.htm)
And now, I'm avoiding this thread or there's no telling what I'll get stuck in my head. :teeth

Nibbling on sponge cake, watching the sun bake,
All of those tourists covered with oil,
Strumming my six string, on my front porch swing,
Smell those shrimp, they're beginning to boil.
Chorus:
Wasting away again in Margaritaville,
Searching for my lost shaker of salt,
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
But I know it's nobody's fault.
Don't know the reason that I stayed here all season,
With nothing to show but this brand new tattoo,
But it's a real beauty, a Mexican cutie,
How it got here I haven't a clue.

Don't fence me in.
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love,
Don't fence me in.

This has stuck in my head for days now (partially because I sang and recorded it some time ago...)
The way you hold your knife (spookie)
The way we danced till three
The way you've changed my life
No, no, they can't take that away from me

I'm going to invest in a whomping willow for my front yard...
I'll instruct it to whomp pigeons, chipmunks, and teenaged girls singing like chipmunks. :teeth
Lori Basiewicz
09-02-2004, 11:24 AM
Ruth, the whomping willow would only work on the girl (or the pigeons or chipmunks) if they come within it's striking range. Somehow, I don't think the girl you have in mind is that foolish. (I'm not certain how foolish the pigeons or chipmunks might be.)

I used to work in an office where they played the radio during the day, and I had the great fortune of being almost directly under one of the speakers. There was no way to change the radio station, or turn my speaker down. This was a few years back, and I live in the Cleveland area. The local football team, the browns, had chosen that isidiuos "Who let the Dogs out?" song as its theme song that year. In an effort to boost team spirit, the radio station in question obliged by playing that song four times an hour, every hour, on game days........
I came to loathe fridays.

"It's a Small World."
Evil. Infectious.
As bad as Pokemon. Or the thought of Janet Reno in a thong.
