Ally, they don't have to be songs you hate. Just songs that get stuck in your head and won't go away. It's all part of a nefarious plot to drive me insane.

My husband says it's too late...

;)

Edited to appease the spelling and typo gods.

RichMar
10-23-2004, 04:38 AM
I figure you got stuck on nefarious. It's kind of an unwieldy word, very nefarious. Ida wrote "evil" myself. Especially since I too woulda hada check the spelling of nefarious. Nefarious is a very evil way to mean evil.

Kind of an "Evil Woman" thing to put forth here.

Anyways, I never cottoned to the song "Evil Woman."

("Anyways" is something they always say on NYPD Blue. I've known a few cops and detectives from NYPD, but I never heard them say "anyways." If I think of it, I'm gonna ask them about that. Hell, I'm retired. I got the time to dig up trivia like that.)

Sorry, Kida. I should have realized that some folks might not recognize the theme song from the 1971 movie SHAFT. That's also what I get for pasting in the first verse of the song. I wasn't even thinking of the innuendo at the time, idiot that I am.

SHAFT -- the original movie (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0067741/)

Audio sample (scroll down to Theme from Shaft) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000000ZML/qid=1098807329/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/002-2163563-6328862?v=glance&s=music)

My sincere apologies if it offended or upset anyone.

You want an annoying song?

Last week my school was doing a fundraiser. We had to pay to have them stop playing the music that they were playing over the PA. It was the most annoying song in the world to, and they played it over and over every minute we were out of class untill they made $750.

Half the students(and teachers) were close to going crazy. The rest of them were there.

In case your wondering the song was by the hanson brothers. I'm not sure what it's called but most of the words are 'ummm-bop budopbopbop, ummm-bop budopbopbop'

ChunkyC

I'm not sure what it's called
Believe it or not, it's called MMM-BOP.

Now how did I know that? :rolleyes

PS - how long did it take to raise the cash? I'm guessing a minute and a half, even if it was all from kids coughing up their lunch money. :b

Here they are...love the song myself...lol

If you see a faded sign on the side of the road that says,
Fifteen miles to the...LOVE SHACK! Love shack yea.

I'm headin' down the Atlanta highway,
Lookin' for the love getaway, love getaway.

I got me a car, it's as big as a whale and we're headed on down to the love shack.
I got me a Chrysler, it seats about twenty, so hurry up and bring your jukebox money!

The love shack is a little old place where, we can get together.
Love shack baby. (A Love Shack bay-hay-bee).
Love shack, baby love shack. (4X) (Love baby, that's where its at) (Last 2X)

Sign says, Wooo! Stay away fools, 'cause love rules at the love shack,
Well it's set way back in the middle of a field,
Just a funky old shack and I gotta get back.

Glitter on the mattress, Glitter on the highway
Glitter on the front porch, Glitter on the hallway.

The love shack is a little old place where, we can get together.
Love shack bay-ay-bee. Love shack baby!
Love sha-a-ack, that's where it's at-
Love sha-a-ack, that's where it's at.

Huggin' and a kissin', dancin' and a lovin',
Wearin' next to nothin' 'cause it's hot as an oven.
The whole shack shimmies when everybody's movin'
Around and around and around and around!

Everybody's movin' everybody's groovin' baby.
(Folks linin' up outside just to get down)!
Everybody's movin' everybody's groovin' baby.
(Funky little shack, funky little shack)!

Hop in my Chrysler it's as big as a whale and we're about to set sail!
I got me a car, it seats about 20 so hurry up and bring your jukebox money!

(Chorus)

Bang, bang, bang, on the door baby, (Knock a little louder baby)
Bang, bang, bang, on the door baby, (I can't hear you)
Bang bang! (On the door baby) Bang bang! (On the door!)
Bang bang! (On the door baby) Bang bang! (On the door!)

You're what???
Tin roof...rusted!

Love shack, baby love shack (4X) (Baby that's where it's at!)

Stuck song syndrome annoyed, frustrated, and irritated women significantly more than men. And earworm attacks were more frequent -- and lasted longer -- for musicians and music lovers. Slightly neurotic people also seemed to suffer more.

From the link batyler65 kindly supplied waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back on the first page.

Remember David Naughton, the American Werewolf in London? He had a couple of egregious offenses.

I'm a Pepper, he's a Pepper, she's a Pepper, we're a Pepper,
Wouldn't you like to be a Pepper too?

and

I'm bad as they come
Number two to no one
I've got looks
I've got brains
and I'm breakin' these chains,
I'm makin' it
I've got the chance, I'm takin' it
No more- no more fakin' it
This time in life I'm makin' it...

I have a laundry list of songs I hate. Let's see....

Anything rap related I cannot stand.

But I reserve a special hatred for all things Shania Twain.

I am a country music fan, mind you, but there is nothing country about her...or Garth Brooks either for that matter.

IMHO that is.

I do like Twain and Brooks, but I know what you're saying, Brady. Personally, I'm more into bluegrass than traditional country. I like Vince Gill when he really gets pickin', Alison Krauss and Union Station, that kind of stuff.

Can't stand Shania's new tune: Havin' a Party. Gag me, weakest thing she's ever done. Much prefer songs like Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under. Classic swing-style country tune. You can spin a gal all around the dance floor to that one.

Suppose I was in fact two stepping with myself, would it then be called one stepping?

When I was a single lad about the town and in college, whenever I attended "social events", I always kept an eye out for the girl dancing by herself after being there for a short time. I figured she would be my best chance. :poke:

Alas, that does not work in reverse. Usually when I tried dancing by myself, I was asked to leave. :Smack:

I was standing on the bridge when Sulu came to me

Grunge sounds like the very first band I was in -- y'know, a bunch of 14 year olds who haven't even learned how to tune their instruments yet. I spent years trying to get better, and then playing badly became a fad! I coulda been a star. What a gyp.

I can't stand that new hip-hop-ish version of "If I were a rich man..." from Fiddler on the Roof. I would rather have racoons dig for cheezies in my underwear while I'm wearing them than have to listen to that. Bleah.

and finally ...

Any cliche "this is the couple's wedding song" song (and just once, I'd like the couple's wedding song to be "Screaming for Vengence" by Judas Priest)

Just about any time one of these songs cues up, I can actually feel my corneas scraping the back of my skull and the blood squeezing from my neck into my toes.

I thought I'd just check this entire thread out (ie: I need to write and/or send in some submissions, so I naturally have killed at least an hour reading every single post since this thread began 2+ years ago).

And I have a confession to make.

With the exception of the loathsome Barney theme, I either don't mind or actually like...EACH AND EVERY song mentioned here. Every one.

I like MMM-Bop. I like (God help me) the entire Barry Manilow oevre. I like all those movie theme songs, including the awful ones.

I (*sob*) like singing the Gilligan's Island theme song, as well as all the OTHER theme songs mentioned (Courtship of Eddie's Father -- a classic!) or not mentioned (Greeeeeen Acres is the place to be!), even SpongeBob Squarepants (which I cannot stand to watch) and Sesame Street (which I can but since my child is now 16, I never do any more).

I...I...I enjoy singing along to the ad themes (I've worked in Marketing for a long time, that's my only excuse! But I'm sticking with it!) including all the weiner songs AND the Band-Aid song (which was, somehow, not mentioned before, but I bring it up here..."I am stuck on Band-Aids, 'cause Band-Aids' stuck on me..." And that would be MISTER Barry Manilow to you. Yes, he wrote that. He wrote a LOT of jingles. That's why they, AND his "real" songs, stick in your head and never leave. Barry is a hook genius.).

There is, however, one song (other than the Barney theme, which, while I hate, does NOT stick in my mind) that, somehow, has been missed from this list. One song so horrible, so insidious, so BAD, so LONG, and SO easily stuck in your head forever, that I am shocked that no one else has mentioned it.

So, since I'm sure that I will be shunned forever for my shameful confessions of song, themes, and jingle loves, I will unveil the ONE song that, when it's thought of, not only can you not get rid of it, but you also have to sit there and wonder WHY it was recorded not once but TWICE and HOW BOTH of those recordings made it onto Casey Kasem's American Top 40.

Ready? (Weaker folk should hit their "back" buttons now)

Recorded both in the vocal stylings of Rex Harrison by the late, great "singer" Mr. Richard Harris (yes, aka Dumbledore) and also in a hep, happening disco version by Miss Donna Summer, I give you...

MacArthur Park.

(Someone left the cake out in the raiiiiiiin. I don't think that I can taaaaaake it. 'Cause it took so long to baaaaake it. And I'll never have that recipe agaiiiiiiiiiiiiiin. Oooooh whoaaaaaaaaa)

I'll just take my coat and hat and go now...

How about the Theme from Gilligan's Island?

The Theme from I Dream of Jeannie?

The Theme from Green Acres?

The Theme from The Brady Bunch?

Let me know if you need a refresher on the words...I'm sure you can hum the tune. :D
