There is some really cool stuff on the internet--my bookmarks are all at home, but I thought I'd start this so anyone else with links they'd like to share will put them up...Publications, resources, whatever :grin
Okay--to start things off (and I can't necessarily vouch for anything except these links worked tonight, and they might be a fun way to procrastinate for a while...)

<font face="book antiqua" size="3"> My home on diary-x, see the signature if you want that link. Then if you want to check out some really twisted horror -- I'm the co-editor of The House of Pain (http://www.house-of-pain.com). Screw Gothic.net -- I hate that site, if you want horror check out The House of Pain. Many of the writers from there go on to get published on bigger places. </font>

I just realized I've posted ralan's address twice. Ah well. Love them.
Other cool links:

www.horror.org
And for art:
www.davidho.com. I don't know if it's horror art necessarily, but it looks cool and it's very dark.

Hey y'all!
Here's an update on these three online markets that I posted on some time ago, in case anyone is interested:
From the Asylum is now paying $25.00 per story, up from the $5.00 they used to pay (also $10 for flash fiction, $10 for poetry). They're slow to respond these days for some reason, but are still going. And if they accept a story, it also gets printed in a neat little paperback that comes out in the summer. I had two pieces in last year's book. :)
www.fromtheasylum.com (http://www.fromtheasylum.com/)
Alien Skin is not accepting full length fiction until April 15 or thereabouts, but they are accepting flash fiction. Detailed guidelines are on the site.
www.alienskinmag.com (http://www.alienskinmag.com/)
Don't have any updates or anything on this next one, but am posting it because I like them and they have a really cool website, with graphics and creepy sounds and everything. ;) I really need to send them something else, when I get time.
www.nocturnalooze.com (http://www.nocturnalooze.com/)
That's it for now! Back to your regularly scheduled discussions. :)

Hey guys,
Here's an interesting market that pays 5 cents a word for fiction, a dollar a line for poetry, and I think $15.00 for reviews. There was something in there about art work, too. One caveat: It's a brand new online publication so I can't reccomend for or advise against. But it does look like something interesting to check out!
Guidelines are at: http://vacantfunhouse.com/guidelines.html

Although these are areading links rather than writing links, I like these:
Alt.books.ghost-fiction FAQ (http://home.epix.net/~wallison/abgf_faq.html) -- Good starting off point for reading suggestions, as well as information about some of the small presses
Alt.books.ghost-fiction newsgroup via Google Groups (http://groups-beta.google.com/group/alt.books.ghost-fiction?hl=en) -- Warning: This group can get feisty
Alt.horror.cthulhu newsgroup via Google Groups (http://groups-beta.google.com/group/alt.horror.cthulhu?hl=en) -- In case you're a Lovecraft fan...
This looks like a nice list of specialty publishers (http://www.datlow.com/links/books.html)...

I realize that they are another writing forum, but I found that if you are really interested in sharpening your skills, these folks are excellent to get advice from. There are several who are published in the short story areas and there are even a few published novelists. The horror challenges are great and I must say they have taught me a great deal in the last six months.

ta-daaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
www.pretty-scary.net (http://www.pretty-scary.net)
the independant horror site thats run by women of horror for women of horror.
Its amazing - there are independant film makers, artists, writers, cartoonists, (there are a few men in there, they will let you join!)
They have recently started a database you can join, people who are 'looking for help' can check into, so people looking for screenplay writers, film make-up crews, sketch artists - can view it and you hopefully get picked up for work.
Its one of the finest places I have ever been and I am a proud member and contributor - I do author interviews and reviews there, they have a literature section thats packed full of goodies and a forum.
have a little look!

Ah, that explains why you rejected a story of mine and recommended I submit it to horror library! They'd already rejected it though (Sniff). Although they did shortlist a novella of mine for another anthology. Hooray! But it didn't make the shorter than shortlist. Sniff.

http://www.permutedpress.com/bestnewapocalyptic.php (http://www.permutedpress.com/bestnewapocalyptic.php) (This is a reprint anthology exclusively for material first published in 2007. We are interested in short stories and novellas from all genres--horror, science fiction, mystery, romance, etc.--which feature an impending apocalypse, occurrence of the apocalypse, or a post-apocalyptic setting.)
http://www.leucrotapress.com/documents/abaculus_submissions.pdf (http://www.leucrotapress.com/documents/abaculus_submissions.pdf)(Stories include science fiction, fantasy, and horror short stories that capture the essence of each genre in their most heightened and original forms. International entries welcome. Please be sure to follow ALL of the below guidelines. Failure to follow guidelines may result in your story being immediately rejected.)
http://morriganbooks.com/TheAgeofBloodandSnow.html (http://morriganbooks.com/TheAgeofBloodandSnow.html) (the best way to describe this is really, really dark sword-and-sorcery pulp)
http://doorwayspublications.com/guidelines.htm#NovellaGuidelines (http://doorwayspublications.com/guidelines.htm#NovellaGuidelines)(We're looking for 15 to 20K of superbly crafted otherness fiction. The work might be labeled horror, fantasy, modern or post-modern, slipstream or experimental—we leave categorizing to others but it must be successful storytelling.)
http://abacotjournal.wordpress.com/submission-guidelines/ (http://abacotjournal.wordpress.com/submission-guidelines/) (Send us your best strange stories under 2,000 words. We are looking for great magic realism, urban fantasy, and fabulist fiction, along the lines of the short stories of Kelly Link and Neil Gaiman. If you've never read either of those authors, please check them out before you submit. Bizarre is good, funny is good, dark is good, whimsy is just plain fantastic. We are also open to slipstream, contemporary fantasy, bizarro, dark fairy tales, and anything else that defies genre. Sci-fi and horror tendencies are acceptable, but shouldn't be the primary theme of the story. Please send us complete stories, with a traditional beginning, middle, and end. We don't accept fanfic, unedited first drafts, or stories with gratuitous sex/violence.)

For those doing the 100 Flash Fiction stuff you might like this link. I tripped across it a couple of days ago.
The bar of sites on the left is amazing. Some are good, up to date sites, and some are no longer around. But there is a bunch to look at. Good luck.

Raphael's Village (http://www.raphaelsvillage.com/index.php?topic=SubmissionGuidelines) is now open for submissions. They accept a variety of genres including horror, but they're not looking for "dark horror." This might well be a good place for those humorous horror stories we all have trouble placing.

I have a little something to contribute...it's not really something to submit work to (although they are hiring writers) It's really just a sight to delve into a little depravity, possibly get some ideas to mold and tweak...serialkillercalendar.com...again, not really a horror mag, but horrifying nonetheless....I like it because you can really drop into the darker sections of the human mind.

I tried awhile back to publish a military science fiction e-zine. I got all of one issue out and then didn't get any submissions for something like 8-10 months, got tired of waiting (and a bit of advice from Uncle Jim regarding e-zines which don't pay their authors (I intended to and i did even pay 1 of them), and closed it down. Within a week I received a single submission to the 'zine.
One of these days if I ever get some extra cash put together I might try my hand at putting together a horror 'zine which will pay authors. It'll be next year or the year after however before I can put the money together (the cost to run an e-zine is not all hat high, but there is a huge time investment needed by the editor(s)).
I've thought about a thriller e-zine and a couple others as well that I'd bet would go over big. Baen's Universe seems to have military SF all bottled up.
