I have a situation which has confused me and want to get some other opinions before I give a response...
Today someone posted a comment on the 'about' page of my blog which got tagged for moderation because it was a new commenter. I went to read the comment and it was someone asking if they could write 'content for my blog'. Now, I am quite happy for people to contribute things to my blog, though I do say that the circulation is probably not the best way to make a debut. However, one particular phrase in the message struck me as suspicious... they said they would do it free of charge.
So, my scam/spam alarm is now ringing... I am not sure how but something tells me this is a scam or spam of some sort.
Either that or someone so naive that they do not realise that blogs of even quite high circulation rarely if ever pay anything for content, preferring to do it themselves and save costs. Unless you are blogging for a large corporation like a news agency, of course. Most I have seen in respect of payment for a blog contribution is a promise of the revenue from the google ads clicks from your article...
So, what gives here? Anyone else had this? If this is a genuine person who is, as they claim, looking for writing experience I am happy to oblige them (but would make no promises about how relevant any experience they might get from me is nor how much impact on the public consciousness I can provide). However, if there is any chance that it is a scam I really do not want to encourage them...

PS: It also occurs to me that I may need to make my blog contact email more prominent as I have had several people try to contact me by leaving comments rather than sending an email
