:D I've thought about and thought about, then I said charmed wasn't a first idea . charmed was made from the movie with the three wiches. then Aron spelling put his own version to it. with white lights, dark lighters and bringing baby with powers. but people might think it be a copy cat, but it won't. because my idea of three withes is totaly diffrent then Aron spelling. can it be done I don't know never tried. but lots of things are a remake, just another name and another thought.

There is lots of movies with three witches. Are you talking about "Practical Magic" ?

Either way, I wouldn't do it unless you have a completely unique way of doing it. Like maybe instead of three witches you can have two warlocks, and instead of having them live in present day, maybe have them live in the future with crazy futuristic powers. :)

Just curious, how old are you? No offense, but your spelling implies that you may be very young or just learning English. :e2shrug:

You've got to be careful

working off the ideas/stories/work of others.

You may THINK and BELIEVE that you are doing things differently, getting artistic distance between you and the original when in fact you are merly copying the same thing. You have the original in your head, that's what you liked, and so you naturally start writing what you've all ready seen done.

Really you want to avoid having to say "Well, it's a lot like Charmed but with..blah blah blah."

Charmed has been done, it's run it's course.

What you will have to do is somewhat like Steph said but more.
You will have to create a totally new side to the witch/magic save the world scenario.

That said, the flip side is that stories get retreaded all the time.
The Island is a modern version of Logan's Run.
Armageddon was a reworking of the Dirty Dozen.
The recent Adam Sandler football film was a retread of ... oh heck, what was the name of the movie with the convict football game?
And then you've got your reimagings, like Planet of the Apes.

You can study these films to see what is the same and what was changed.

Sometimes changing just a few elements will give you a totally new story.

So really I guess, you've got to try and put your best foot forward.

However, brace yourself for the likely event of constantly being told "This reminds me of Charmed and I thought that show sucked. See ya."

No harm in trying though.
You'll learn the craft and hey, maybe you'll end up getting lucky.

Ding dong, The Mean Machine was the alternative release title for The Longest Yard. I saw it in the UK in the mid-'70s as The Mean Machine. 1 point each.

Hmm,

When I looked up The Longest Yard it was a football movie. And the one I've seen was a football movie with Burt Reynolds. Came out in 74.

I looked up The Mean Machine and it's a soccer film with other stars. Came out in 2001.

doink. No points for D.

The basic story is the same though, convicts against guards.

My sincerest apologies

D, I should know by now that you know what you are talking about.

I just did another search on IMDB and found the mention that the 1974 Longest Yard was indeed called The Mean Machine in the UK.

I'll give up my point for unsportsmenlike conduct and insufficient research.

There's nothing original about Charmed at all. It's actually more of a rip-off of Joss Whedon's stuff than the movie Practical Magic.

I watch it, occasionally, but only for the boobies and hot chicks.

Let's see, it's about 3 witches which isn't exactly original.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer starts to get really popular, so what does Charmed do? They add kung fu to it by giving Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) kung fu skills.

BTVS had an incredibly engaging storyline of the heroine, sworn to kill vampires, falling in love with a vampire (demon). Charmed then did the same with the Phoebe (witch) and Cole (demon...which witches are sworn to kill) story line.

BTVS's Buffy and Angel storyline also had Angel go bad (he actually is bad, as he has a good, human side, and an evil, demon side) when Angel turns evil and tries to kill everyone. Buffy eventually has to kill Angel (but he comes back). About a year or two later, Charmed has a storyline where Cole (human good side, demon bad side) turns fully evil and Phoebe and the gang are forced to kill him (but he comes back...and is eventually killed "for good" later...when he leaves to star in "Nip/Tuck" on F/X).

I could keep going on about how many other story ideas they stole from both BTVS and the Angel series, but it'd take all night.

Bottom line, Charmed is one of the worst shows on TV, writing-wise and originality-wise. However, it is decent eye-candy.

I'm just shaking my head.

But yeah, I agree. As soon as everyone saw how great BTVS was doing, everyone else had to the whole good verses evil thing. Not a great fan of Charmed, but I will have to say it was original when it started.

I really liked

Buffy and watched it up until the monsters started scaring my daughter.
Then I watched Angel for a little while, it had more humor to it.

I watched Charmed for a few seasons but then just got tired of it.
I didn't like the new girl very much and things seemed to be getting corny and ringing false.

Buffy really had a lot going on, all kinds of themes being explored. And every season had some new twist to it, provided by all kinds of unique characters. Each character grew, changed, evolved. Even the slightly lesser ones. And they were give dramatic turns and sometimes whole seasons to themselves, like the witch girl. She turned antagonistic didn't she?

This is a two sided coin.
You might get lucky with a "retreaded" idea or you might strike out.
Shows like Charmed get made, maybe they do copy other shows, and some really like them, others don't.

The thing to do is not get Charmed stuck in your mind. You build on what worked for the show and then take it another direction.

A story is like play dough.
You can make anything out of it that you want but it's still the same basic stuff.

Ugh...more ripping-off of better works by Charmed:

"I find your lack of faith disturbing."

This is a quote from some evil dude in an episode of Charmed today.

It's also a direct, plaigarized quote from Darth Vader in Star Wars (1977).

Man, if this show didn't have Alyssa Milano (and Kaley Cuoco, now), it'd be too intellectually iritating to watch.

I watched "Charmed" up to the point where they thought Leo was bad. That was it for me. Same storyline, different character.

BTW Opti- it's plagiagerized. Just thought I'd bring that to your attention. :tongue

Ah, okay, sorry. Sometimes humor doesn't translate into message boards.

Absolutely, well said.

Now that we've had everyone's honest and unbiased opinion, time to close this thread.
