So here's the deal. I finally completed a script a few months back on a story I had been working on for 2-3 years. I had to put it away and work on some other stuff in the meantime because I couldn't get the ending right. Anyway, it's a horror story, and immediately after finding the right ending I was suddenly smashed with inspiration for a sequel. I've researched it a tad, and while there's nothing definitive (as there never is with screenwriting), there seems to be some success stories where folks have been able to sell a horror script plus 1-2 sequels. I think it could maybe help with the pitch (a potential horror "series" seems commercially favorable to a stand alone story) I think Kevin Williamson already had Scream 2 mapped out when he sold Scream.
Question is, should I just write a treatment for the sequel? Try to write the whole script? Just jot key points in a notebook, put it away and just work on trying to get that first sell? I have a lot of projects working simultaneously (I've tried to narrow down before and focus on 1-2 at a time, it just doesn't work for me), so it wouldn't be like I was taking up all my time working on it. Still, is it even worth it?
