...you're stuck on a particular plot point, trying to figure out how something will happen. And so you just write toward the scene, and suddenly the solution unfolds RIGHT THERE, not only makes sense, but makes so much sense you wonder how you never saw it before. And then you realize that all kinds of other things tie right into that solution.

Sigh. Love it.

Gee, whenever that happens to me I take a shower. The running of the water seems to ignite the running of my thoughts.

Boy, am I clean.

That happens to me on every book, usually after a really ANNOYING period of time where I contemplate suicide.

A constant state of self-doubt.
Oh, man, I wish I'd have one of those moments right about now. I'm in the "index card phase" of my next fantasy novel, and there's a big hole toward the end of it where I don't know how they get from point T to point U, so to speak. Normally I hate writing down anything until I have the whole thing plotted out, but at this rate I don't know if I'll ever start, because I just cannot think of a good answer to my quandary. I know what needs to happen, I just don't know how to make it organically plausible.

Perhaps if I write up to point "T" I'll have one of those magical moments?

Hopehope?

Sirensix, sometimes you have to let the work onfold on its own. If you're stuck at one point, don't wait to write the entire ms. Just start the darn thing! If you're still stuck on the scene when you reach it, skip it and go back. Eventually the triumphent music will sound and the scene will come to you. Good luck!

It's worth a shot, right? I've had a similiar problem -- something wasn't working. And I couldn't figure it out. I knew one of my MCs had a secret, and I knew what that secret was. It wasn't until I realized I should be focusing on making that a prominent part of a novel from the beginning (instead of a 'revelation' to come more toward the end) that everything made sense.

I think the story's already in you, it just takes the right nudge to come out right. Maybe you've got your answer, and it will unfold when you write.
