I expect that within the year after the IPO you will see

(a) More screen real-estate dedicated to advertisers with a paid feature to get rid of SOME of the ads, but not all of them.

(b) Facebook attempting tighter collaborations (as a means to increase revenues) with other entities and agencies that will drive a wedge into the user space. Those not willing to have their information sold or monitored more aggressively than it already is will probably abandon their accouts (or leave them with only minimum interaction).

I don't have a fan page (I have a basic page in my name), but I'm guessing that won't be the last of their "Value Added" revenue streams to kick in over the next year.

I'm guessing the reason they want users clicking onto your page, instead of getting messages on their wall, is so they get more ad impressions (each page load is only one 'impression')

Did you know only a tiny percentage of your posts are being seen by those who've "LIKED" you?
It's always been like that.

It has to be. Otherwise it would be unusable. 'Liking' something or being 'Friends' doesn't mean: "Put every single excreta of information from their feed onto my screen no matter if it's the kind of thing I normally ignore."

Imagine if it was truly like that. If I have 500 acquaintances/items that I'm a friend/fan of .. then everytime I connect to Facebook I'd be drowned with 500 messages!

It would be rapidly unusable.

The part you quoted is the way it *SHOULD* be.

If I interact with someone then more of their feed goes to my screen.

It's a feature of the system - not a fault.

If marketers want to use Facebook to reach an audience then they need to interact with the audience ... not simply dump crap into the stream and be horrified that Facebook in conspiring to hide it!

(eg: Since I often click the links to DClary's comic when it appears in my Facebook post, Facebook does the smart thing and keep DClary's posts visible in my stream ... but someone else who posts stuff that doesn't interest me much gets less visibility. It's a good system.)

Well I hide all the fanpages & groups from my feed so I don't see them on my feed.

It's always been there since you've been able to hide statuses of people from your feed.

Why do I get the feeling stuff like this is going to mark the begining of the end of facebook?

Bit melodramatic this feature has always been there.

It's no different from ignoring people on here.

That's a good point, about how FB already has the "top" posts feed, in addition to the "newest" posts feed. It's already filtering.

I think what's new is their coming out and telling vendors that if they want to get the exposure they *thought* they were getting, it's going to cost.

Kansas! Again.
Facebook is a social network. If you're using it only to advertise, you're doing it wrong, anyway.
