I've just finished writing the screenplay adapted from my unpublished novel. I'm sure submitting a screenplay differs from submitting a ms, any pointers? Bound or unbound, font etc.

I welcome all comments, suggests and insights.
Thanks to everyone!!

Are you entering contests? Answering the request of an agent or production company? Screenwriting contests are about the only places you can send a script without a prior request and not have it summarily discarded. If you want to submit your script to production companies, you have to query them first, and then send it if and when they ask for it.

Querying (and pitching) are arts unto themselves. (How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice. :D ) You can do it by letter, you can do it by email, you can do it by phone. (You can do it in a house, you can do it like a mouse. I do not like you Sam I am. I do not like green eggs and ham.:e2hammer: )

The Script Is Finished. Now What Do I Do?

Font is always 12 point Courier. Two brads, Acco #5, an inch and a quarter. Cardstock covers.

Hi Lindsay,

Don't submit it yet. Seriously, if you don't know what font will annoy a screenplay reader, then you've probably done 20 other things that will also annoy the heck out of the reader.

Posting a few pages on the critique board is probably a good next step.

Good luck!

Mac.

Thanks so much Odocoileus and Mac for your great tips and links.

I have a unqiue situation in that my step mother is best friends with a major Hollywood producer and he said that he'll have his assistant read my screenplay. So, I figured I just go for the gusto and submit to him only at least right now, see what he says. I want to make sure it is as perfect as it could be in terms of fonts and how it is bound. I have the format down. But those links are of great help and if he decides to take a pass (which is a good chance that he will) then I need to start working on a query letter and check out contests.

Thanks again so much for your help!!!

Can we be friends???? ;)

Is the producer or assistant familiar with your novel, or the overall story?

I have a similar 'card' that I know I can probably pull, but only once. So I am saving it in my back pocket until I really have something that is to my satisfaction.

If the producer is genuinely interested, you might want to make sure that you have the basics covered (structure, format, etc.) I can't tell you level of experience from your original post, so just throwing this out.

By the way, Mac, you're right, I found a bunch of another things that would most certainly annoy the reader. Thanx for the tip! I'm not submitting just yet.

Of course we can be friends, Max!

The producer is only acquainted with the story, but still I want to come off as professional as possible. My experience is zip, but I'm hoping that will change in the near future.:)

You guys have given me great tips that I'll be using. I'm going to fine tune before submitting. I have about 5 days before I'm going to send it out.
