Suggestions for publishing?

My husband tells these wonderful stories to our kids and nieces and nephews. I think we should write them down, have someone illustrate them, and then self-publish as a softback collection.

What do you think? What would you suggest on getting these published?

I would write them down and see if you can get a traditional publisher first. Where in the natural state are you?
