Hi:

I've been focusing on getting established writing fiction, so this non-fiction business is a bit confusing. It's not clear to me -- does one send a query letter out first, or does one just start by sending one's proposal out to publishers? I've read different things here -- which is the standard approach?

Also -- I have an agent representing me/my novel. When I signed our representational agreement, I mentioned to him that I had started a non-fiction book on Topic X. He did not express enthusiasm for that non-fiction project at the time -- he said he didn't usually represent books of that nature. Should I offer him the chance to represent this non-fiction anyway -- if it's not usually his line of representation, would there be value-added (i.e. worth giving him 15 percent)?

Thanking you in advance for your assistance --
