I'm looking for some good novels/thrillers, which feature an MC who is an assassin. I'm plotting a I, Claudius style story [political assassination.]

Double points for historicals.
Extra bonus for titles set in Ancient Rome. :D

not historical but Day of the Jackal would be one. I guess The Bourne Identity, but he's done assassinating... I'll see if I can think of others.

Thanks. :)

Has anyone read the Assassin's Creed books? I know they are spin-offs of the computer games, and kind of puts me off reading them.

Haven't read the Assassin's Creed books. You might want to check out Greg Rucka's Smoker and Critical Space. In the first, the MC is a bodyguard and his nemesis in the book is a group of assassins. Not quite what you're looking for, but the second book puts one of the assassins more front and center. (I kept Critical Space but donated Smoker.)

Give it a few years or a few more and I'll have one of my own... ;) I started work on one in the 1100-1200s. In light of that book-to-be I'd actually be quite interested in reading up on similar assassin-y stuff as well.

The first thing I thought of was Clara Rinker, John Sandford's wonderful Ozarkian hit woman, introduced in this novel: http://www.johnsandford.org/prey10.html

Did you try googling " 'historical novel' assassin " ? looks like some interesting stuff.

John Rain books by Barry Eisler. If you want something more international David Morrell has Fraternity of Stone, Brotherhood of the Rose and League of Night and Fog (I'm not sure what order they go in). Cormac McCarthy's No Country For Old Men. I'll come back if I think of anymore. Also if you like video games, check out the Hitman series.
