I am frankly amazed by this book. A friend recommended it to me, it's a couple years old now and I hadn't heard of it. I thought it was a fantastic, fascinating, Terry-Pratchettesque, Neil-Gaimaney romp. Probably the most original book I've read in years. Yet it doesn't seem to have the fan base I would expect for a book of its caliber.
I mean, there are plenty of great books out there that don't get touted around as the next big thing. This one, though, kind of hit that wonderful note between thoughtful, compelling, and fun that I would have thought could have made it the next (insert-wildly-popular-bestseller-here). It's deep without being cloying, complex without being overly clever and pleased with itself, and just plain entertaining.
It was well recieved, but not as well as I think it deserved.
Anybody else a fan?
